Eating on a night shift
The body does not metabolise 3 am the way it metabolises 3 pm. Plan around that.

Read this bit if nothing else
Night-shift work in India usually means a canteen meal at 1 am, tea and biscuits at 4 am, and a heavy breakfast before sleeping. That pattern is hard on both weight and blood sugar. The shape that works better is to move the largest meal to before the shift and keep the middle of the night light and protein-forward.

A difference of 365 kcal ಮತ್ತು 7.3 g of protein, from the same cuisine, the same restaurant and roughly the same amount of food on the plate. Every figure is computed from the dishes named, at the serving sizes on their ThaliFacts pages.
What actually works
- Biggest meal before the shift.
- Eat properly at 8 pm rather than at 1 am. It is the single change that most people find both easiest and most effective.
- Keep the 3 am meal small and protein-forward.
- Curd, eggs, chana, sattu. Not maggi, not biscuits, not a fried canteen plate.
- Cap the tea.
- Four cups of sweet chai across a shift is roughly 250 kcal of sugar and enough caffeine to wreck the sleep you are about to attempt.
- Do not eat a full breakfast before sleeping.
- Something small. A full meal at 8 am before a 9 am sleep is why the afternoon feels the way it does.
- Night shifts and blood sugar.
- Rotating shifts are associated with worse glucose control. If you have diabetes or are at risk, this is worth raising with your doctor rather than solving alone.

How much difference does it actually make?
812 kcal against 447 kcal for the two plates on this page — a gap of 365 kcal from a single meal, with 7.3 g of protein difference on top. Repeat that four times a week and it is not a small number any more.
Are these figures exact?
They are computed from Indian food composition data at the serving sizes shown, which makes them a good estimate of home cooking and a conservative estimate of restaurant cooking. A restaurant version of any dish here can run 30 to 60% higher, almost entirely because of fat.
Calories and macros are computed from the ThaliFacts dataset, which is based on the ಭಾರತೀಯ ಆಹಾರ ಸಂಯೋಜನೆ ಕೋಷ್ಟಕಗಳು 2017 (ICMR–NIN), plus the regional dishes estimated for this site and marked ಅಂದಾಜು wherever they appear.
